The Mennonites in Newfoundland get together once a week in St. John's, Newfoundland. We discuss Mennonite issues, faith, and what it is like to live in St. John's Newfoundland. Schedule of activities Sunday October 2

Pay close attention to this, Sunday is irregular:

1. 9:30 AM Meeting at Quidi Vidi (right-hand side of the stage) for the Run
for the Cure (80's pop-rock band - I'm sure they'd love "the Flaming
Martyrs")
2. Immediately following (11:30ish): to Scott and Mel's for pizza lunch
(celebrating the construction of a big wall. Scott has requested that the
building of the wall become a central theme of church services until advent.
A fitting metaphor for living in a community of love...)
3. Immediately following (1-1:30ish): mind-meld pizza worship service. (Put
the pepperoni down and turn to number 157 in the blue hymnal.)

The end. So church is not to be at Wendloyn's as originally planned.

SUNDAY SEPT 11 PLANS

This just in from Scott MN (and I quote):

The long awaited and much balyhooed plan for Sunday has been semi-finalized:

Sunday 12:45 pm - meet at the Morton Ninomiyas to organize car pool - please
let me know if you can put a vehicle into the pool [Ed. note: I don't want
to drive cars into pools. They don't work after that!]
(1 Parliament Place - directions below)
(then you can drop off your food stuffs if you have them for supper)

Head out for Doors Open visits to:
1) Mosque - Logy Bay Road
2) Hindu Temple - Penney Lane (off Torbay near TCH)
3) Synagogue (Elizabeth Ave not far from MUN)

My preference is to prioritize the mosque and temple, and do the synagogue
if we have time and energy. I'm open to changing those priorities.

Notes for those toting little ones: this is a very family thing - no need to
sedate your kids to go into these hallowed halls of worship - they are
expecting some chaos. [Ed. note: When has there ever been a need to sedate
kids?]

Sharing FOOD and Worship: (Somewhere around 4 or 5 pm ish, back at the MN
house)

Please bring a slad or some appetizer or dessert.
MN's will take care of the corn (Nfld corn from Lesters!)

We can have sharing time about our Doors Open experience, and do some joys
and concerns and some singing while we shuck the corn.

This is intended to be a relaxed experience - no need to go nuts preparing
food (there are 2 grocery stores on our Doors Open route). If the Doors
Open thing does not appeal to you, or makes you feel stressed, please feel
free to bow out. We'll enjoy corn togehter and maybe even head over for
mini-golf (but only if the spirit moves us!). If you prefer one stop or no
stops on the Doors Open tour - you're welcome to come to our place at 4 or 5
pm to join us for food and worship.

OK. We'll see how it all works out on Sunday!

Directions to our place:
We are near the corner of Portugal Cove and Prince Philip (aka Crosstown/
aka MacDonald Drive/ aka the Arterial/ aka the Parkway) - where da Holiday
Inn is to. At Bethesda Penetecostal, tyake a right on Ottawa street, and
Parliamant Place is the second left - we are on the corner.

Rides:
Call if you need one. Wendolyn, Anne and others in downtown, i am picking
up Kate (Simon and Judith's friend) at 12:30 at her place downtown, so i can
easily pick any others up then.)

Our number is 722-9492 if you need it (After Friday at 2 pm you likely won't
get us by email).

House Church location September 11

Hello all,
House church on Sunday, September 11 will be at Scott and Melody's place.
They have moved in the last month or so - if you don't know where they are
living now, get in touch to find out where their new pad is located.

Scott has big plans for social activity on that day. As you all know, every
second weekend of the month is social weekend, when those who can get
together for social activity of some sort and have fun. The following MAY
occur on September 10, prior to or after church. IN FACT, church MAY BE AT
A DIFFERENT TIME than usual, depending on what the social committee (Scott
and Wendolyn) decide.

Options for the day include (but are not limited to):
- Doors Open (when people wander around poking their noses into other
people's spaces, like the Catholics' Basillica, the Anglicans' Cathedral, or
the Mennonites' house church (we don't expect too many visitors - we didn't
get into the guide))
- Mini-Golf (at that course on Prince Philip near Scott and Mel's place)
- Picking of some sort of food-stuff (not boogers, probably corn at Lester's
Farm)
- Roasting of some sort of food-stuff (probably the one picked earlier in
the day)
- Worship
- Sleepover (by special request from Mel - actually I think she was either
joking or being sarcastic... we'll ask Scott which it was)

Keep your eayes, ears, and schedules open for more details about this most
exciting day!

Simon.

HC location September 4

House church this sunday is at the Thiessens in Torbay.
Also, they've put out the generous invitation to one and all to a barbeque
at their house prior to church to celebrate "Back to school" and "Barton's
birthday" and "More rainy days than not in this crazy place..." and various
other celebratory thingies.
While they didn't specify a time to arrive, church starts at 6:30 so it
probably shouldn't be later than 5:30. If I am wrong on this, please
someone correct me!

See you all there!
Simon.

Happy Birthday Barton

You may not know this, but today is Barton's birthday. And don't let him tell you he's 29! We went through that last week. Apparently this is his 3rd 29th birthday in a row. You do the math.
I think the cake says "Happy Birthday Barton, love from all your friends at house church." But my Japanese isn't that great, so maybe someone else (Scott?) could translate it.
Simon.
The Cake!
